I wanted to title this blog post "Mercury Retrograde is a time to Reflect, Reconnect and Revisit those things that made a Revolution in your life" but the title was way too long. My intention for this post is to help you recognize that Mercury Retrograde energy is much more than technology failure but a time to be receptive to energy connecting you with significant changes that occurred in your life.

Mercury Retrograde - when we hear this we immediately think of failed technology or communication. It’s something of a phenomena. When I first learned about Mercury Retrograde so many years ago it immediately made sense to me. Things failed because the planet of communication was taking a break from m loving forward all of the time. It was ‘resetting’ itself. However, it didn’t have control over the effects of it’s planetary restoration.

Now, more and more people have learned to acknowledge when Mercury Retrograde occurs and to be on guard, so to speak, for things to happen. Maybe traveling will be more difficult. Their phone or computer will glitch or they can’t seem to get a point across.

But what about the other elements of this planetary action? Mercury Retrograde is just about communication breakdown. Mercury retrograde is also about restoring oneself - taking a rest or break from something, It’s about Revisiting and it’s also about Reconnecting. Anything that allows us to Reflect on the past. All of these are part of the brilliance of Mercury when it is in retrograde mode.

Recently, I’ve been meaning to connect with my first yoga instructor, Yvette. Since becoming a yoga instructor I have thought about her often because she was so instrumental in my early years of learning yoga. I took Yvette’s classes 27 years ago traveling 30 minutes to get to them. There were no other classes around. Yvette’s teaching style and approach to the practice all resonated with me. I have adapted some of her style to my own way of teaching. She focused a lot on the spiritual aspect of yoga and not on the aesthetic alignment. Because she had polio as a child her own body wasn’t able to get into the poses in the ‘precise’ way so her mission was to teach others how to feel the poses within their own body. I remember her always saying ‘Never to compete or compare’.

At the time I suffered from physical pain in my joints that prevented me from moving at times. I was on heavy medicine and no doctor knew what it was. I went to yoga to see if it would help. It did. My pains went away. The mind body connection healed what was deep rooted. Yoga and Yvette changed my life forever. I wanted to Reconnect with her to let her know how much she inspired me and the changes she brought into my life. So, this past week, with Mercury in Retrograde, I found a way to connect with her through a mutual friend (no coincidences also synchronicity). We had a lovely conversation I felt as if I was 27 years younger and connecting with my teacher. She sounded amazing with the same positive spirit as she was reiterating some of the phrases and learnings that she taught me so many years ago It’s as if I went back in time.

I knew in my heart that she would appreciate hearing from me. I also knew that I needed to share with her my story of healing and how she helped. That is the beauty, the positive side of Mercury retrograde. It ‘nudged’ me. I listened and took the hint and made the ‘reconnection’. Thank you Mercury.

Another thing that I recently felt like doing during this time is Revisiting some books that I read so many years ago (at the same time I took yoga for the first time). Particularly one book called ‘Living with Joy’. While in Sedona many years ago I walked into a small book shop. I remember it well. I came across this book on the shelf and I knew that it would make a difference. Sedona is a magically spiritual place and 27 years ago it wasn’t as robust as it is today. I didn’t even know about it. But, it was magical and this book also helped guide me through some of the pain I was experiencing. I still have the book and plan to look t it again. It’s an easy read with so many of my underlined phrases all having such simple significance.

Use the energy of Mercury Retrograde to help you tune into your own awareness and receptivity of what you want to revisit and reconnect with. Perhaps you will come across old friendships or even old passions that can be reignited. Be open to the positive occurrences of the universal life force around you.
